High Deductible Plans Discourage Care?
For the young and healthy, a high deductible plan with a smaller premium can make the difference between being able to afford coverage, and going without. Unfortunately, one unexpected illness or emergency can mean high medical bills and the need to cut back on health care spending. Experts fear that these high deductible plans do more than decrease uneccesary medical spending, they are discouraging people from seeking routine care and important health screenings such as colonoscopies and the like. This may lead to more expensive treatments needed later on, as preventable problems are not caught early. Since these high deductible plans are relatively new to the marketplace, what do you think the long term impact will be?
