Is Health Insurance a Right?

Opponents of McCain’s market driven plan to have everyone acquire their own private policy and thus increasing competition among insurance companies fear that it will result in chaos and that only the strong will survive. They feel that the insurance companies will be the ones to profit, and that those with preexisting conditions and lower incomes, will not only lose their employer provided coverage, but be unable to get a plan on their own. Advocates of the idea that health insurance is a right feel that the government should step in to make sure that coverage is available to all citizens and that the insurance companies be regulated and controlled. Which do you think is the right idea? Should free market principles reign, or is health insurance truly a right that should be secured by government influence?
