Misuse of Emergency Rooms
As the unemployment rate rises and more people are losing their jobs and their health insurance, many are having to turn to the emergency room when in need of care. The percentage of non-emergency cases being seen in emergency rooms is rising at an alarming rate, which risks jeaopardizing the care of actual emergency cases such as heart attacks, strokes, and trauma. If already crowded emergency rooms are being burdened by people with the flu and other non-life threatening illnesses, how will those in need of emergency care suffer? How will hospitals deal with this problem? What are other options for people with no insurance in need of care?
