School Board Works to Provide Better Alternatives for Teacher’s Union
The Grand Rapids Public School Board is working to make sure that sticking with the traditional options aren’t costing their teachers more money in the long run. The school board has been seeking quotes from various companies as part of last year’s state budget reforms, but many are cautious to leave their current provider behind. The Michigan Education Special Services Association, otherwise known as MESSA, warns that switching from their coverage to another could prove to be more costly in the long run, as other companies will “promise anything” to get the business and then not follow through on those promises when the time comes. The Union is at the forefront of the resistance to switch, with many accepting smaller raises in order to keep the traditional benefits.
