Take Care Clinics to Take Care of Uninsured
Take Care Clinics, offered in participating Walgreens locations, will be offering free services to unemployed people without health insurance for the remainder of the year. Patients will still be required to pay for prescriptions, however Walgreens will cover the cost of routine treatment for minor ailments and will provide tests free of charge. Where uninsured patients would normally be faced with a charge of almost $60 to be seen, the uninsured can now receive care for a number of issues including respiratory problems, allergies, infections and skin conditions just to name a few. Hal Rosenbluth, chairman of the program is treating this as somewhat of an experiment, as he does not know how many people will take advantage of the care nor how much it will cost the company throughout the remainder of the year. He is hoping that the offer will attract new business to the stores and that when the economy improves, they will have a greater number of loyal customers already accustomed to using Walgreens for their prescription and health care needs. Do you think this is a good plan, or wil the program cost them more money than it will make them in the long run?

i think it will save money. The only downside is that there will be less profit for hospitals. to what degree i’m not sure, but it will affect business.

Who knows? Obviously not Walgreens. But, a very innovative idea.

How will they know if someone is uninsured? What if someone goes in claiming of being uninsured but they really just don’t want to pay for their MD visit?
