Again, when are people going start being held accountable. Did Mary read her policy? Why didn't she realize she was going out of network. People are always so quick to blame the insurance companies but the fact of the matter is most of the blame is on the insured who doesn't bother to understand what they bought or how to use it. It's actually a bit comical because I bet if you asked people how many text messages they are allotted under their cell plan they would have an exact answer. On the flip side, those same people probably don't even know the name of their health insurance provider.

It is important to understand what insurance benefits you have and it is also important to stand up for what you believe in. Mary did the right thing to send a letter, but I don't understand why she didn't go in-network as well.

This whole UHC is bad thing doesn't make much sense. Who else would set up the rates for out of network reimbursements. THe government and other private companies do not have a clue as to the fees charged. Health Insurance companies are the groups that negoiate these contracts. Why wasn't this person going in her network in the first place? If people know how to use their insurance everything would be fine. Everyone complains about insurance companies, but when they pay that big claim they are happy. Just doesn't make much sense to me....
