Did Mary read her policy? Why didn't she realize she was going out of network. People are always so quick to blame the insurance companies but the fact of the matter is most of the blame is on the insured who doesn't bother to understand what they bought or how to use it. It's actually a bit comical because I bet if you asked people how many text messages they are allotted under their cell plan they would have an exact answer. Who else would set up the rates for out of network reimbursements. THe government and other private companies do not have a clue as to the fees charged. Health Insurance companies are the groups that negoiate these contracts. Why wasn't this person going in her network in the first place? If people know how to use their insurance everything would be fine. Everyone complains about insurance companies, but when they pay that big claim they are happy.
