The Future of Healthcare

For the first time in recent history, the Democrats are almost fully in control and will face little opposition in the crusade to deliver much needed health care reform. The good news is that with the Democrats in control, we will likely see a dramtic increase in the number of citizens covered by health insurance. The bad news is, this may result in the dissapearance of the individual health insurance marketplace to be replaced by government run programs along the lines of Medicare. Also, this will be very expensive. As it stands, Medicare is slated to go bankrupt in the next ten years, suggesting that dramatic changes will need to be made if that type of government health care is expected to work. Also, with a dramatic increase in the number of people covered by insurance, the government will have to work to increase the number of health care providers. The average doctor comes away from medical school with $150,000 in debt. If government assistance could help reduce that cost, it would encourage more people to pursue the health care field. What other issues face us in the crusade for a better health care system in America?
