Thousands of People Newly Eligible for Low Cost Coverage
It is a bad sign of the times when thousands of people are now eligible for low cost insurance programs such as the ones offered in New York. However this doesn’t necessarily reflect a massive movement towards poverty, many of these programs have changed their requirements for eligibility, which has allowed more people to qualify. Not all of these programs are free, many are based on an income scale which adjusts the premium according to level of income. Also, many of these programs are targeted to a specific disease. Strangely enough though, of all the people now eligible for these programs, a suprisingly large percentage of the population does not take advantage of them. Do you think these programs need to do more to reach out to people and make them aware that they are available? How can this be accomplished?
