University Students Depending on Publicly Funded Healthcare
Is it fair that high level students at Universities such as Stanford, Davis, and Irvine should be receiving federally funded health care for themselves and their families? As Universities continue to drop their healthcare plans, it is leading a larger number of students who are seeking masters degrees in law and medicine to turn to these government provided coverages rather than go without. Universities are defending the cuts by saying that the plans don’t support themselves, but many students, who will one day be earning six figures or more, find it morally reprehensible for taking advantage of these welfare based benefits. Many Universities continue to provide plans at lower than market rates as a benefit to their students, but not all can justify the cost and some have said that they loose money on these programs. What can be done to solve this problem? Read more here

Most college students, though they may make 6 figures after school are dirt poor while going, not to mention all the school loans they have after graduating. I feel Universities should do what they can to help students and their families as they get their education.

These students should be able to afford a high deductible individual plan. If they cannot afford that type of coverage then they shouldn’t be considered “high level” students.

Yeah, student health insurance is a tricky one. I”m not sure how students can afford private insurance policies.
