Health care coverage is essential

Health care law is going to be refused by Gov. Sean Parnell’s office because a federal district court judge in Florida has ruled it unconstitutional.

There have been four conflicting court rulings on whether the health insurance mandate is constitutional and the issue, which has yet to reach the appeals court level, appears headed to the U.S. Supreme Court in time.

Sen. Hollis French said that the health care law should be followed as long as it remains the law of the land, but the Parnell administration says it is no longer the law of the land because of the Florida ruling.

French notes that the Florida judge did not issue an injunction, so the state is still obligated to follow the law.  But the Parnell administration is taking the position that the lower court ruling is binding without a court order.
