Wisconsin Health Insurance Regulations Change

State Senator Kathleen Vinehout is working to change Wisconsin health insurance regulations to help reduce the overwhelming number of uninsureds. Families USA recently gave the state a failing grade when it comes to protecting consumers in the health care market. Some proposals that Vinehout is working on include reducing the time frame of prexisting conditions to one year, reducing the practice of reviewing medical history which results in a denial of coverage, and eliminating the practice of additional underwriting when deciding to modify coverage. She also wants to extand coverage to unmarried children up to age 27 under their parents’ policy and make it easier for people to access the state’s high risk pool. Will the senator be able to achieve any of these lofty goals?
